Oh crap

#2 sent samples of the silk she bought in India. They're not the colours I want.

The dark blue is more of a bright royal blue instead of the dark ink/midnight blue I wanted and the pale blue is quite silvery.

What am I going to do?
I hope I'm going to get over myself and get on with it.
Don't really have the money to buy more silk in the UK and don't have anyone heading back to India to buy more silk before the wedding.
#1 and #2 are meeting up at the weekend so #1 can see the silk.

Wedding Traditions I

Quite a while ago I posted about wedding traditions having seen the lovely card box that Stacy posted about (have you seen her dress – wow). Hopefully I’ll get round to posting some more traditions but for now let’s stick with the bagpipes.

It is traditional to have a bagpiper at a Scottish wedding. Yes it is a very loud often screechy noise to have indoors but it is an evocative sound.

I will be piped down the aisle and we will be piped back up the aisle as husband and wife (eek). Guess what, O’s brother is a piper and he is going to pipe our wedding.

Yippee so that is piper and ceremony music ticked off the list.

Other news; #2 went to India with her friend the dress maker last week (they work together and were on a business trip - handy). They bought silk for the bridesmaid dresses so that can all get underway. #2 is going to send me samples for my approval, however as it was a third of the cost of silk in the UK and non-returnable I think it'll be just fine. They have bought extra for waistcoats and ties for the boys.

Weekend recap

Did you have a good weekend? I did although the journey to London was horrendous (I arrived in Wimbledon at 3am). Really need to stop trying to get anywhere with the weather as it is. I’m sorry, I would love to write you a long detailed post about bridesmaid dress shopping but I’m shattered and writing is not coming easy at all. However there is good news, I think we’ve sorted the dresses for my ladies. #2 has a friend who is a very talented dress maker and she is going to make them for us – easy eh? We spent Saturday looking at shapes and styles and working out what suits them and then Sunday morning we spent chatting with the lovely dress maker and explaining what we are after. We are going to get silk samples to see the different qualities and to get the right shade – going for midnight/ink blue for the grown ups and a pale cornflower blue (we saw 3 different cornflower blues so that isn’t very specific) for my niece.

Really pleased to have something else ticked off the list. My tasks for this week are to make a short list of the photographers we have contacted and arrange to meet them. I also need to start contacting ceilidh bands who will also do some old time favourites (if my Scottish readers have any suggestions I’d love to hear them).

How are things going with your wedding to do list. Did you see Gaynor's list here? I'd love to be this far along in the planning process although every time I read one of Gaynor's lists my own gets longer because of the sheer amount of stuff that hasn't even crossed my radar yet.

Happy Weekend

This weekend I'm flying to London (hopefully fingers crossed for the weather) to go bridesmaids dress shopping with #1, #2 and my niece - my bestwomen.

Tempted to get them dresses like these:

But hopefully we'll end up with something more like these:

Will let you know how we get on next week.

Hope you are doing something fun. UK readers please wrap up warm it is going to be a cold one. And take care of icy pavements.

#1, #2 & #3 (Me)

I'm the youngest in my family and have the joy of having two older sisters, my Dad has numbered us according to birth order, you'll hear him handing the phone to my Mum - "it's #3";

#1 is 13 and a bit years older than me and she left home when she was 16 (to spend a year in the USA). We have never lived together (when I was aware) and spent a lot of time not really getting on, there was of course sisterly love but she lived all her life experiences so much in advance of me we never really connected (she got married when I was 13 and had my wonderful nephew when I was 15 and then my niece 18 months after that). She also spent 10 years of her life as an only child so you can kind of understand her not being over the moon to have 2 little brats breaking up her home. Over time we are slowly reconnecting and the gap between us is thankfully shrinking. We are finally becoming sisters.

#2 is 3 and a half years older than me - however she also left home when she was 16 (spent a year in Holland)

Let me just clarify my parents are the most amazing people and they were fully supportive of my sisters leaving home so young. In fact they both volunteered for the organisation which set up exchange schemes for young people to experience another country for a year - we used to get new 16 year olds living with us all the time.

So #2 and I have had our fair share of sisterly battles - we have stolen each others make up and clothes and fought like cat and dog. Having come through that time relatively unscathed we are much closer. Our life paths seem also to be practically in line, it's good to have someone to voice your concerns to that the world is a crazy crazy place.

We have asked #1 & #2 to be my bridesmaids, however as they are both older than me and glamorous independent women the word bridesmaid didn't seem appropriate so from now on I'm going to call them my Best Women.

p.s. visit Project Subrosa who also numbers her siblings but there are 6 of them!
