The best Christmas present ever

(although I have to say Zoe's is pretty effing cool)

This pretty little ring got redesigned and we picked it up just before Christmas.

Yes I've been engaged since August and yes I've only just got my engagement ring. Yes I have the patience of a saint.
Not really though, we were very particular about the design and it has been totally worth the wait.

Describing the whole process is going to take me some time but I thought I'd just give you the basics.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

(not sure why I have yellow hands, they don't look like that in real life)

Weekend catch up

So Stobo was ridiculously expensive but the relaxation was worth it. Think we'll need to make a trip to the spa a regular occurrence.

Saturday we bought a huge beautiful handmade rug as an engagement present from O's parents. Covers a lot of our horrible living room carpet until we can save enough to buy new carpets.

Sunday we saw three wedding venues; first was ok but nothing special; second was sooooo expensive we ran away; third place definitely our favourite so far - actually got us quite excited. We are going to see more places but we have a front runner so far.

Hope you had a good one.

Marriage Update

So remember I'm getting married - sometimes I forget myself.

Last weekend we went to my parent's for the weekend and met with a jeweller who is going to turn the below very special ring into our engagement ring. I'm so excited but need to be patient as it is going to take about 8 weeks. We need to wait for technical drawings and then a wax model which if we are happy with will be used to cast the ring. Not going to reveal the design just yet but I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

I'm struggling with the colour scheme for the wedding. I swing between blue, brown and slate grey. Saw this inspiration board on Snippet & Ink.

The Weekend

Anyway this weekend. We're going to my parents house to catch up with them. Most excitingly we will be visiting a jeweller to talk about making my engagement ring (seriously have been engaged for 2 months and not got a ring, need to be more organised).

My Mum is also threatening to take me to a wedding fayre which I'm trying to resist without throwing a temper tantrum. O is quite keen on going as he hopes there will be free cake. I on the other hand would rather take an ice bath! Are wedding fayres really as bad as I think they will be?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, thank you for your comments and welcome to any new readers.

My beautiful ring contd.

So when O first showed me the ring he explained that he'd prefer to have a ring designed for us using the diamonds from his aunt's ring. So once he finally proposed we found a design we wanted very quickly, we just need to find a jeweller to make it for us. We have approached a few jewellers before we settle on the right one. What has taken us by surprise is the jewellers reaction to our family heirloom. Comments revolve around the fact that the diamonds are old! They're not perfectly round, they're not cut as well as modern diamonds. One jeweller asked us if we really wanted to use these diamonds? As the design we've chosen won't look as nice with our diamonds. Yes of course we want to use our diamonds, they mean a lot to us, we don't care that they aren't perfectly round or as well cut as modern diamonds!!! *deep breath*
Hoping that our ring will start being made soon!

My beautiful ring

About 18 months ago O's Mum gave him a ring that belonged to her aunt, her intention was that he give the ring to me. Not necessarily as an engagement ring but as a piece of jewellery she knew that she would never wear.
Now I love my boy but he isn't the most sensitive of souls and so he decided to show me the ring just after the bells had rung at New Years Eve (we'd been together 5 years at that point). I immediately thought that him sitting on the sofa with a shy smile on his face holding a diamond ring meant engagement! Until he broke the news to me that although we would one day use this beautiful ring as our engagement ring that day had not yet arrived (he did want to be with me forever but marriage was still too scary). I didn't speak to him for quite a while that evening - we tend not to talk about it!
But I got over the disappointment of this mistaken proposal and I now have the ring for real.

The Engagement Story

We went away for the weekend (it rained and rained and blew a gale)
Having slept under canvas we woke up to see the sun
We went to the beach
O disappeared (I was distracted by breakfast)
O reappeared we walked to the beach
I was distracted by the beautiful view and having the sun on my face
O grinned like he'd escaped from a mental asylum
He pointed at the ground where he'd written in the sand
"Will you marry me?"
I grinned like I'd escaped from a mental asylum
