Ring, ring, ring

Last time we were in Leeds we dropped off my engagement ring with the jeweller so that my wedding band could be made to fit perfectly alongside. At that time we collected O's wedding band. On Tuesday when I was at home feeling sorry for myself with a bad back the post-man arrived with my engagement ring and wedding ring.

I LOVE THEM!!!

*photos by me - wow they are bad!

Ring a ding ding

So when we picked up my engagement ring we also ordered our wedding rings.

Mine will be a 2.5mm plain palladium band which will be fitted to the wave of my engagement ring. What? You didn't know that my ring was palladium and you can't see from the picture that it has a wave? Thats probably because I never got round to sharing anymore details - the picture may help a little.

O has decided he will have a ring - although he might not wear it for the first 40 years of our marriage. After further investigation and advice from a wise blogger we decided not to go for a wood inlay. His will be a 5mm handbrushed concave palladium band. The picture below is as close as I could find - imagine it handbrushed (or prescratched as I'm thinking of it).

Image above is from here - which also happens to be the jeweller we are getting our rings from.
Why the wave? Because O loves the sea and the water - it was his only design request for the ring.
Why palladium? Simple platinum was out of our budget

The best Christmas present ever

(although I have to say Zoe's is pretty effing cool)

This pretty little ring got redesigned and we picked it up just before Christmas.

Yes I've been engaged since August and yes I've only just got my engagement ring. Yes I have the patience of a saint.
Not really though, we were very particular about the design and it has been totally worth the wait.

Describing the whole process is going to take me some time but I thought I'd just give you the basics.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

(not sure why I have yellow hands, they don't look like that in real life)

Marriage Update

So remember I'm getting married - sometimes I forget myself.

Last weekend we went to my parent's for the weekend and met with a jeweller who is going to turn the below very special ring into our engagement ring. I'm so excited but need to be patient as it is going to take about 8 weeks. We need to wait for technical drawings and then a wax model which if we are happy with will be used to cast the ring. Not going to reveal the design just yet but I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

I'm struggling with the colour scheme for the wedding. I swing between blue, brown and slate grey. Saw this inspiration board on Snippet & Ink.

The Weekend

Anyway this weekend. We're going to my parents house to catch up with them. Most excitingly we will be visiting a jeweller to talk about making my engagement ring (seriously have been engaged for 2 months and not got a ring, need to be more organised).

My Mum is also threatening to take me to a wedding fayre which I'm trying to resist without throwing a temper tantrum. O is quite keen on going as he hopes there will be free cake. I on the other hand would rather take an ice bath! Are wedding fayres really as bad as I think they will be?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, thank you for your comments and welcome to any new readers.

Possibilities for O's wedding ring

O won't wear a wedding ring, he doesn't wear any jewellery and doesn't intend to after we are married. But we do believe that he will need a ring for the day. O is a gardener so I like the idea of his ring containing some symbol of nature. Found these on etsy....

My beautiful ring contd.

So when O first showed me the ring he explained that he'd prefer to have a ring designed for us using the diamonds from his aunt's ring. So once he finally proposed we found a design we wanted very quickly, we just need to find a jeweller to make it for us. We have approached a few jewellers before we settle on the right one. What has taken us by surprise is the jewellers reaction to our family heirloom. Comments revolve around the fact that the diamonds are old! They're not perfectly round, they're not cut as well as modern diamonds. One jeweller asked us if we really wanted to use these diamonds? As the design we've chosen won't look as nice with our diamonds. Yes of course we want to use our diamonds, they mean a lot to us, we don't care that they aren't perfectly round or as well cut as modern diamonds!!! *deep breath*
Hoping that our ring will start being made soon!

My beautiful ring

About 18 months ago O's Mum gave him a ring that belonged to her aunt, her intention was that he give the ring to me. Not necessarily as an engagement ring but as a piece of jewellery she knew that she would never wear.
Now I love my boy but he isn't the most sensitive of souls and so he decided to show me the ring just after the bells had rung at New Years Eve (we'd been together 5 years at that point). I immediately thought that him sitting on the sofa with a shy smile on his face holding a diamond ring meant engagement! Until he broke the news to me that although we would one day use this beautiful ring as our engagement ring that day had not yet arrived (he did want to be with me forever but marriage was still too scary). I didn't speak to him for quite a while that evening - we tend not to talk about it!
But I got over the disappointment of this mistaken proposal and I now have the ring for real.
