This poem was among my Granddad's belongings.
The family story is that the poem was written by a man who was in the same hospital ward as my Granddad when he was injured during World War II.
(If anyone knows any other history to this poem I'd love to know)
this is sort of connected, and sort of not, but James family tradition of sorts on rememberance day is to climb either great gable, or more recently, castle crag in the lakes, both hills have monuments at the top to members of the climbing clubs who fell during the wars, it would be interesting to see if w.woodburn was on either of them, since hes from windermere. haing written that, its more loosely connected than I thought. have you ever googled the name?
