a short commute

A long week at work ended unpleasantly with a minor emergency at the end of Friday. I tramped across the car park in the slight drizzle. Plonked myself into the driving seat and threw my hand bag and lunch bag onto the passenger seat. I started the engine and turned the cd up loud and sang along. I was halfway home when I spotted a little girl in the arms of her grandfather, she was laughing and clapping as he blew raspberries on her cheeks. I was almost home when I spotted some students running and laughing with carrier bags over the heads to protect from the rain which was now falling. I couldn't help but smile and the stress lifted. Weekends or days away from work are precious things.

Have a good weekend.

Anniversary day out

We went to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You should go too, too, too
We went to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

Ok so I changed the words slightly but you get the idea.

We spent our very sunny one year wedding anniversary at Edinburgh Zoo

A day out in Glasgow

Last weekend we had a friend come to visit. We decided to go the new Glasgow Transport Museum. Only we decided to go at the start of the Glasgow Fair...................never try to do anything in Glasgow during the Fair.

Given that we turned up an hour and a half before the museum closed we didn't really have enough time to properly explore. The bits we did get to see were very good with excellent interactive screens - not those annoying interactive screens but ones where you got to chose what you want to look at. We'll be visiting again, when it is quieter and we will get there earlier.

We got an invite

(source) *

Not to the royal wedding**!

But we are heading north this weekend to go to a wedding. To the top of the country where we'll catch a boat that will take us further north to a collection of islands I've never visited.
Where we will whirl and burl and get sore feet.

Hope you all have lovely plans for the weekend

(**As we're spending the day driving I won't be able to watch. I'm sure I'll be able to catch up though)

*Of the huge amount of wedding memorabilia that I've seen I thought I'd be able to get behind Lego. But this just freaks me out - they've not got faces!)

This weekend we headed north. There were baby highland coos, baby sheep and baby nephew.

Thank F*** It's Friday

(which I think is that my husband felt like saying when I came home as useless as a chocolate teapot)

Turns out that time flies when you are working every hour of the day. Had a huge work deadline today which I managed to meet at 17:10! Huge relief!

Dinner, gossip and a couple of drinkipoos with the girls tonight has helped me de-stress.

Tomorrow we drive down south to Leeds to spend the weekend with my parents. Will also be seeing a good friend from high school who I haven't seen in almost two years - in which time she had a baby and I got married, so we have a LOT to catch up on.

I'M NOT BACK AT WORK UNTIL WEDNESDAY! Sorry I'm a little over excited about that.

I hope you all have something fun planned for the weekend. I'd love to hear about it.

Driving

This weekend we are driving up North to spend time with O's family. I'm looking forward to homemade soups, baby cuddles, leaning on the rayburn to absorb as much heat as possible and listening to the rain and wind battering off the velux windows.

I'm also looking forward to the long drive with my husband where we get the chance in our little cocoon to talk about everything, anything and nothing. We'll sometimes listen to an audio book. We sometimes play car games - will there be more VWs or Fords passing us in the next 30 minutes? This only works when we go north (where there few motorways or dual carriageway) because it is hard and dangerous to play on the motorway.

#2 and her boyfriend are terrible in the car together they just argue and get stressed. I don't really understand that and they weren't impressed with my suggested car games.

I'm looking forward to my alone time with my husband.

How do you cope with long car journeys?
Do you have any nice weekend plans?

Fruit Picking

Last weekend, after years of talking about it, we decided we would go fruit picking. Except Scotland decided to throw its toys out the pram on Sunday and have a tantrum. We had gale force wind, torrential rain and even sleet at one point so the prospect of going outside was not appealing.

My family and I used to go fruit picking when I was a little girl during those summers which were endless and the sun was always shining (I have clearly blocked out the months of rain). In the years when fruit picking was the cheaper way to get your fruit – it is now very expensive to pick your own. We would arrive and pick (and eat) strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and gooseberries. Screaming and running, dropping fruit as we went, from wasps and bees. Moaning at our sore backs and bramble scratched hands. Once we had, had our fill and the moaning became too much to bear for my parents we would head home. As much of the fresh fruit was eaten, the rest went into the huge chest freezer in the garage and was turned into different desserts including gooseberry fool, which I hated because it was too bitter for my sweet tooth*.
I want the sun to come back so that we can go and pick our own.

*We have rhubarb growing in the garden that I also find too bitter. I’m tempted to try and turn it into rhubarb fool but the amount of sugar required is quite scary.

This weekend we'll be doing wedding stuff. I hope you have fun stuff planned.

Weekend

I managed to get myself on a course in Leeds so we are having weekend at my parent's house courtesy of my work. On the list:

Visit the jewellers to pick up O's wedding ring and to leave my engagement ring so the wedding band can be made to fit along side it. Really don't want to give them my engagement ring but it will be worth it.

I'm sure there will be plenty of wedding chat.

Saturday night:

We are going to see the Blues Brothers with my parents. There will be singing and dancing, O might get very embarrassed. I promised that we wouldn't get dressed up.

Our weekend

Our weekend started with some good news. When we were given our wedding date we weren't sure that one of O's best friends would be able to attend. However we learnt at the weekend that he is able to attend which we are really pleased about.

Other than that our weekend looked like this:

(image from here)

We went to Edinburgh so that O could look for a jacket to go with his kilt. I was a little put out that I had to go with him as he never came dress shopping with me but apparently it is different and I should stop moaning.

(image from here)

We went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I think I can cope without films in 3D, 2D is enough for me as my head was starting to hurt by the end of it. Our general opinion of the film was that it was very good however not great and did not really live up to the hype which I think maybe the problem for more and more of Tim Burton's films.

Sunday we drove north and east to see friends and headed to Broughty Ferry for some ice-cream.

All in all a very pleasant couple of days.

Weekend

Hello lovely readers,

A couple of things I guess, first of all thank you for all your lovely comments and suggestions regarding my silk dilemma

#1 thinks that the dark blue is too bright and she would prefer an even darker blue. Everyone likes the light blue on my niece so we are likely to stick with that. #1 and #2 are going to visit some fabric shops with my Mum and Dad who are down to visit next week so that they can get samples of dark blues to send to me. We will then think about pricing for buying new fabric vs dyeing the fabric.

Received a sample of my wedding dress fabric and I'm very pleased with the colour - funny how memories and pictures on the internet distort things in the muddled mind of a bride-to-be.

Secondly the big parental meet up. You were of course correct it went fine. They were all very civil to each other, on their best behaviour and nobody did anything too embarrassing. Don't think they'll be best friends but that isn't really necessary. We went to our venue for a tour and for dinner. Very relieved that everyone liked the venue and that the food was wonderful! I've been questioning every single decision I've made for this wedding so I'm glad that I'm still happy with the venue. My Mother-in-law described it as quirky and relaxed - bingo, I love that woman.

Thank you again for all your sane rational thoughts and comments they mean a lot to me.

Pitlochry

This weekend we went up to Pitlochry to the salmon ladder, was nice to get out in the fresh air for a while even though there was still a lot of snow around making it slippy under foot. There were no fish in the ladder it being completely the wrong time of year. We're planning on going back when we might see some fish. Hope you had a good weekend I'd love to hear what you got up to.

Rain Rain Go Away

(from here)

My thoughts and sympathies are with those affected by the flooding in the North East of Scotland this weekend.

Seriously have we not had enough rain already?

Weekend

So what are you up to this weekend?

I'm going for coffee and cake with some friends from Uni.

O and I are going for a drive around our "B" list of venues to see if anything jumps out. Just to double check that we really do love our venue as much as we think we do.

Sunday afternoon we fly to London to stay with my sister (#1) and babysit her kids for their half-term week. My nephew B is 12 going on 17 and niece E is 11 going on 22. I'm really looking forward to spending some time with them, before they become proper teenagers and refuse to talk to me.

So I probably won't be around too much next week. Will try to drop in but if not will catch up with you all next weekend.
